First, let’s define leaked. So, I take a napkin and a marker and draw up what I think the 2020 iPhone will look like. Then, I post it on Twitter and call it a leaked render; the Twitterverse goes wild, my napkin image goes viral, and K Mac becomes a household name. Yoni Heisler:
Aside from the introduction of the iPhone X a few years back, it’s really been a while since Apple caught us off guard with a brand new form factor.
Let’s see. iPhone 1.0 was a flat slab of glass with rounded corners. What else would you expect the design to be in 2020?
The form factor Apple initially introduced on the iPhone 6 in 2014 essentially remained unchanged for four years.
Or, essentially unchanged since 2007.
Famous investor analyst Ming-Chi Kuo:
We predict that the new 2H20 iPhone design will change significantly […] The metal frame and the front and rear 2/2.5D glass are still used, but the metal frame surface will be changed to a similar design to the iPhone 4, replacing the current surface design.
In other words, iPhone 5s-like design, or, put another way, iPad Pro design. It’s still a flat slab of glass with rounded corners. Rounded edges to flat edges do not a complete re-design make. Much ado over not much.
