Wil takes a look at HomePod sales estimates:
HomePod sales estimates for 2018 are all over the Map. Let me take the low number of about 200,000 HomePods per month. At $349 each, that’s about $70-million a month, or almost $900-million a year. Even at a lowly number, the total revenue seems impressive for a product in its first year.
Indeed. But how does that compare to Amazon’s Echo?
Barely 18 months ago analysts’ estimates put Echo sales at around $1.4-billion for 2017. At an average selling price of $100, that could be sales of 14-million, so that sounds about right. Again, these are guesstimates.
Anything similar to that in recent history? Oh, you know– Watch and iPhone X?
First, the headlines say flop, flop, flop. Then, the headlines report reality– iPhone X is a hit. Apple Watch is a hit.
