It’s not as though my iPhone, iPad, and Mac do not have enough applications. I added a dozen or so in the past year and few of them show up as being used in iOS’s Battery shaming app. Sarah Perez has the numbers (somebody’s numbers):
Consumers spent $196 million on apps, in-app purchases and subscriptions on Christmas Day 2017 across the App Store and Google Play… That speaks to a still-growing market for apps and games as well as the potential for developers to generate new revenue streams by way of subscriptions sold through their apps.
2017 may be the watershed year for in-app subscriptions. That trend has caused me to reconsider many app purchases. Subscriptions are more expensive.
