Wil Gomez on the iPhone 7 Lightning connector replacing the venerable analog headphone jack.
Nobody asked for a mouse. There wasn’t a petition for Apple to put a mouse into a personal computer. Yet, Apple did it anyway and today both Mac and Windows PC desktops use a mouse. Does anyone complain about using a mouse? Only those that prefer a trackpad. Guess who introduced the trackpad to the masses?
Apple has a long and glorious history of dumping aging technology. What’s older than a headphone jack?
Remember, it was Apple that ushered in USB to the masses with the first iMac in 1998. That also marked the beginning of the end of the floppy disk. No more serial ports. No more ADB ports. No more SCSI ports. USB for all. Oh, the howls of protest from members of the technorati elite politburo even back then.
It will happen anyway.
Remember all the noise from the technorati elite politburo on the iPhone because it didn’t have a hardware keyboard? Look around. Can you spot a smartphone today that has a hardware keyboard? No. Why? Apple.
Apple will always be Apple and that means change and forward movement in technology. If that bothers you at any step along the way, you should jump to Windows PCs, Chomebooks, Android devices, or the occasional Windows Phone. But be aware they will all follow Apple eventually and you will still need to make the change. Deal with it.
Enough said. Get ready.
