Great look at Senator Lindsey Graham’s evolving positions on the F.B.I. vs. Apple and encryption issue from Tim Cushing:
Graham in mid-February:
Our nation is at war and this iPhone was used to kill Americans. We need to protect our homeland, not terrorists. To Tim Cook and Apple, cooperate with the FBI.
This is the same Senator Graham who had a few choice words about the Republican candidates for president:
[Trump] generally is a loser as a person and a candidate… ill-suited for the job… My party has gone batshit crazy… A good Republican would defend Ted Cruz. That ain’t me. If you killed Ted Cruz on the floor of the Senate, nobody would convict you.
Plainspoken, right? This is Graham talking to Attorney General Loretta Lynch:
I was all with you until I actually started getting briefed by the people in the Intel Community. I will say that I’m a person that’s been moved by the arguments about the precedent we set and the damage we might be doing to our own national security… So this encryption issue, if you require Apple to unlock that phone that doesn’t deny terrorist the ability to communicate privately does it, there are others ways they can do this.
It took awhile but he got it.
