Apple did it again. Just like the Watch, an iPhone accessory, generated untold amounts of digital ink, so too does the new iPhone Smart Battery Case. It has a hump. Lance Ulanoff with Apple CEO Tim Cook:
You know, I probably wouldn’t call it ‘the hump’…
Tim. Look at it. It’s a hump. A dromedary camel-like hump on the back of the iPhone 6s.
As you probably know from being a user of this now one of the real insights here is, have you ever used other cases and tried to get them on?
Yes. Some go on and off easily, others require a little work, but, seriously, Tim, how often do you put a battery case on your iPhone? Once. How often do you need to take it off? Once.
If you make this solid all the way across in order to get it on, you’d find it very difficult to get it on and off.
But you only have to do it once, Tim. Once.
So the guys had this great insight to put the bend in along with making it a smart case… if you’re charging your phone every day, you probably don’t need this at all. But if you’re out hiking and you go on overnight trip… it’s kind of nice to have.
So would a not-quite-so-thin iPhone with longer battery life.
Smart Battery Case strikes me more as a product designed to help shore up the biggest shortcoming in the iPhone 6 and 6s. Low battery life.
