Microsoft made a big deal out of the new Surface Book with claims that it was twice as fast as a MacBook Pro. Benchmarks prove otherwise. Since both machines run Intel Inside then something seems amiss. It’s Microsoft acting like Samsung. Gordon Mah Ung:
Microsoft claims its new Surface Book is “twice” as fast as its equivalent MacBook Pro. Well, we ran some benchmarks, and hate to say it, but Microsoft lied. The Surface Book isn’t twice as fast.
It’s three times as fast.
It turns out that Microsoft’s Surface Book has a powerful discrete graphics chip running with the new Skylake CPU while the 13-inch MacBook Pro runs the older Broadwell CPU (faster GPUs are available only in the 15-inch MacBook Pro). What’s twice as fast? Graphic benchmarks.
What about real world usage? Microsoft seldom goes down that road.
