Every now and then I run across a simple, elegant app that does something no one else has thought to do, and it blends right in with my workflow, easy peazy, no effort required. That’s the story of Coffitivity. The app’s name implies coffee, right? Who among the Mac faithful hasn’t hit Starbucks for a caffeine fix and taken the MacBook along to get caught up on email, browse a little, and relax while drinking a little stimulating beverage? Of course you have.
Unfortunately, that little escape from the home or office isn’t always available. Either the weather is bad, or there’s too much to do to leave, so you’re stuck slaving over a hot keyboard but wishing you were somewhere else.
Coffitivity brings the ambiance of the coffee shop right to your Mac (or iPhone or iPad). Click the Coffitivity icon in the Mac’s Menubar and sounds from the coffee shop are played on your Mac.
Sounds include the Morning Mumur, a light background hum to help you start the day. For lunch, there’s the Lunctime Lounge, a more bustling and hustling background sound that mimics the busy of lunch. And, there’s University Undertones, which brings more sounds from a campus cafe to your Mac.
Simple click the Menubar, select the sound, adjust the volume as needed, close your eyes for a moment, and you’re aurally transported to where you’d rather be but can’t.
The tagline for Coffitivity is great. ‘Coffitivity. Enough noise to work.’
Because there’s both a Mac and iOS version for iPhone and iPad means you can don the headphones or earbuds and immerse yourself in the coffee shop experience without actually being there.
Supposedly, a little noise helps to fuel the creative juices, though I suspect some caffeine does the trick, too. Nicely done, simple, useful, and inexpensive.
