This is exactly the kind of headline that leaves me stumped. From MarketWatch: ‘Apple, other smartphone makers may be at risk from new AT&T upgrade plan.’
How? Bowing to competition from T-Mobile, AT&T has a new plan for smartphones which lets customers upgrade to newer versions by paying more each month. The Next plan shifts some of the cost of buying a new smartphone to the customer with upfront monthly payments.
So, customers can now buy phones more frequently but they still have to pay the price. How does that put Apple and other smartphone makers in the U.S. at risk?
