I love this. Mike Elgan in Cult of Android does a quick look at what a Google retail store might look like. Compared to Apple’s pristine, austere, and spartan stores, the playful Google look might catch on.
I think Google Stores could be a huge advantage for Google. Apple Stores are profitable in part because the company sells a small number of highly profitable products. One sale of, say, an iPhone, iPad or MacBook Pro nets Apple not a few dollars, but as many as a few hundred dollars. After a few hundred such purchases, it begins to add up.
I agree. One of the key components of good marketing is differentiation. In and of itself, a store isn’t necessarily different, but Google could make the shopping experience more fun than Apple.
