Here’s the deal. Palm wants the Pre to connect to iTunes. Apple doesn’t want the Pre to connect to iTunes. Palm tweaks and syncs. Apple disables. Repeat. So, Palm complained to the governing body for all things USB. From Business Week, Executive Director, Traci Donnell:
Palm’s allegation (if true) does not establish that Apple is using its Vendor ID contrary to USB-IF’s policies.
Palm got smacked down. Then Palm said they would use Apple’s Vendor ID to sync. Donnell:
Palm may only use the single Vendor ID issued to Palm for Palm’s usage…. Usage of another company’s Vendor ID is specifically precluded.
Palm got smacked down again.
There’s another issue, though. Should Apple continue to prohibit other vendor devices from connecting to iTunes?
