Nearly every Mac user with a digital camera uses iPhoto. Once you get a few thousand photos into iPhoto keeping track of where they are can be a pain. Keyword Manager eliminates the pain, organizes your photos fast. Simple or Better? iPhoto comes with a keyword feature built in. If you use it, you’re better off than if you don’t because keywords assigned to photos make sorting, sifting and finding photos much easier. The more photos in your Library, the more complex management becomes, even with keywords. Simple is not always better. Keyword Manager does what you expect. It helps you manage keywords. iPhoto gets a new menu heading called Keywords. That’s where the fun begins. Improved, Easier The problem with iPhoto’s keyword feature is that you have to remember what you assigned to which photos. Keyword Manager makes that cumbersome process a snap. Preferences are elegant. Since iPhoto allows for multiple photo libraries, Keyword Manager allows keyword sharing between libraries. Quick Assigner Keyword Manager starts with a simple interface, and two floating charcoal windows which hover over iPhoto. The first is Quick Assigner, which lets you assign specific keywords to specific photos. Keyword Manager allows you to group your keywords hierarchically. For example, you can have the keyword Paris as a subkeyword to France. Every time you assign Paris to a photo, France will also be assigned to that photo. First, select one or many photos in iPhoto. Then, in Quick Assigner, enter appropriate keywords in the Assign Keywords field. Once you have a few keywords enter, Smart Autocompletion takes over. Use Quick Assigner as you scan through your iPhoto images. Select the photos, then enter or select specific keywords to match the photos. Remember, you’re categorizing your photos by using keywords, so more is better. Quick Assigner will also show you a snapshot of the photos you’ve selected. Keyword Manager Once you’ve entered keywords into Quick Assigner and attached them to your photos, Keyword Manager is used to manage the keywords. Keyword Manager floats over your photos the same as Quick Assigner. Keywords can be grouped into categories, arranged in a hierarchical order using simple drag and drop. The Keyword Manager window has plenty of options. Click on the far right circle to show only those photos which contain specific keywords. Even keywords created in iPhoto, not in Keyword Manager, will be ready for sorting and categorizing. Using Keyword Manager to manage your keywords allows you to quickly and easily tag all photos in your library, regardless of how many photos you have and how many keywords you want to use. Quick Assigner takes only minutes to learn and creates new keywords for specific photos or entire groups of photos. Keyword Manager manages the keywords by categories. Blended Team When I first installed Keyword Manager I was a bit apprehensive because two floating windows hit the screen. I was afraid I might lose some of the keywords I’d already set up in iPhoto. Nope. Keyword Manager works as if it is an original part of iPhoto. In fact, if you decide to uninstall Keyword Manager, all the keywords you set up remain intact right inside iPhoto. Not bad for $19.
