View news from 100 web sites without Safari
Friday, May 9, 2008
Every week I bump into someone who complains about how much time they spend each day looking at web sites in their browser. In each case they tell me they’re just trying to keep up with what’s going on in the world. I ask them to spell R S S for me. It’s nearing the middle of 2008 and yet quizzical looks abound. Here’s how to view the news from 100 or more web sites without using Safari, without devoting hours to the job.

There is no better way to get news than through RSS. I prefer NetNewsWire now that it’s free. I used the open source Vienna before. I even tried Times, which uses a newspaper-like layout, and, guess what? I like it. It’s a little slow but very easy and relaxing on the eyes.
If you’re not using RSS, please, figure it out and start using it. You’ll be glad you did.

You’re right about RSS being THE best way to save time browsing for news through dozens of web sites. I can’t imagine doing it the old fashioned way, one page at a time.
Safari’s implementation of RSS is really decent, though, uncluttered, basic, easily as fast as using NetNewsWire, just doesn’t have all the bells and whistles.
