The coming of Apple’s very perfect storm

Sunday, May 18, 2008

To say that Apple has been successful in recent years is to understate the obvious, and completely ignore what is going on behind the scenes. Apple isn’t just doing well with the Mac, the iPod, the iPhone, and financially. Deliberately, carefully, with great discipline, Apple is preparing a perfect storm.

Well said, Kate!

I bought into the Mac world ten years ago with a Rev. A iMac. Now I have a small network of the last dual boot G4, Mac Pro, and MacBook Pro, my iMac is currently retired due to lack of space.

I’ve been caught up in the Apple storm and am pleased with it. That’s a key factor. In a world which sells an item (computer technology) which is always a work in progress, Apple sells greater consistency wrapped in an aestheticly pleasurable package.

Shortly after Steve came back and saved Apple, I bought 2k shares at $14 a share. My financial advisor said I was gambling. My wife thought I was nuts. The shares have split since then and I’m looking smarter and smarter as the days go by.

Thanks Steve!  Go APPL!

Please don’t keep reminding me that I could have easily bought 1000 APPL shares for around about $10 each, 10 years ago. How many times have they split now?

I think AppleTV could be a huge hit. People literally do not understand what it is and what it can do.

We had a great party on Saturday. I dug up some funny videos beforehand which I synced to my ATV.

We laughed at Ellen’s spoof of the Hawaiian chair and a few other videos. Then I got to show off how cool ATV is. I blew their minds with video podcasts, the crystal clear movie trailers & ability to rent or purchase movies, seemingly endless podcasts of all types, including educational lectures from ivy league colleges, photos, playing music, youtube, and more.

I think I sold it to everyone at the party. They were stunned that such a product existed and even more stunned when I showed them Apple’s remote but explained that even though Apple makes the thing, you don’t need a Mac to run it.

ATV has great potential. I’m not sure why Apple doesn’t realize it and advertise it.

Oh, so very, very true. The storm is building. The iPod carried the Mac forward, the iPhone will do the same as it hits other countries. I read someplace where the market potential this year will be over 600 million people. At a mere 1%, Apple has another major hit.

Competition keeps talking feature comparison, price, etc., but haven’t figured out that whole ‘ecosystem’ thing. It all works together. Mac, movies, TV shows, music, iPod, cell phone, Apple Store, iTunes Store.

Who else has anything at all like that?

Fine article….

That’s why I always have to laugh when a cellphone company takes some new hardware, slaps on Windows Mobile 6.1 with a touchscreen interface and says “Now we have an iPhone killer.”

These people are definitely failing to see the big picture of what it’s going to take to beat the iPhone and Apple.  No OSX, no iTMS, no Apps store, very little desktop computer integration, no carrier leverage, no Apple stores, no solid customer service support and the list goes on.  I think they should be saying, “Houston, we have a problem.”

Once Apple gets China, Japan, Korea and Russia, their potential user base for the iPhone will be around a billion users.  We’re talking world domination plus the iPhone halo kicking in for the rest of Apple’s product line.  Sweet days ahead for us Apple investors and users.  Perfect storm for us and extremely rough seas ahead for Apple’s competitors.
