One Week of Statistics from PixoBebo

Saturday, April 19, 2008 | How To

Lies, damned lies, and statistics. After one full week of visitors, PixoBebo has a few statistics (with charts and graphs) to share. Oh, and some surprises, too. More Mac users than Windows users read PixoBebo.

Analyzing Analytics

PixoBebo uses Google’s Analytics to track visitors to the site. What does it look like after the first full week? Not a bad start.

Stats

Just under 1,000 visitors a day, not bad for a new site. Return visitors are growing, also a good sign. Page views per visitor has begun to improve, another good sign.

Those numbers should increase over time as more readers visit the site, and more return.

Mac or Windows?

About 25-percent of the visitors to Mac360 use Windows. They’re probably captive readers, stuck at work, slaving away on a Windows PC (click on the images for a larger, close-up view).

Stats

Whoa. Surprise. About 85-percent of PixoBebo’s visitors are using a Mac, barely 13-percent use Windows.

Look at the iPod and iPhone. Five times more people use the iPhone and iPod touch than Linux users. Also interesting is the fact that almost 70-percent of readers use and Intel Mac vs. a PowerPC Mac.

A Browser By Any Other Name

How about browser usage on Macs and PCs?

Stats

For PixoBebo readers, the browser of choice is Safari, by a wide margin over Firefox (Mac and Windows PC) or Camino, and almost 80-percent of the Safari users have upgraded to the latest version.

Combinations

Mixing and match stats from browsers and operating systems is revealing.

Firefox on Windows outnumbers Microsoft’s Internet Explorer, which is barely four times that of Safari on Windows.

Stats

Safari iPhone and Safari Windows have similar numbers. It will be interesting to see how those numbers look in six months, then one year from now.

Where Art Thou From?

The internet truly transcends borders, though PixoBebo readers tend to be somewhat English-speaking country centric.

Most readers are tracked back to the U.S. and Canada, though a growing number are from the U.K., and still many others from Australia, Germany, New Zealand, Japan, and France.

Stats

It would be interesting to know how many PixoBebo readers use English as a second language.

How Big is your Mac Screen?

I don’t have a way to track the kind of Mac; MacBook vs. iMac vs. Mac mini, vs any older Mac.

However, Analytics does track screen resolutions. A 20-inch Apple Cinema Display or 20-inch iMac sports resolution of up to 1680x1050 pixels. Over half of all Mac visitors to PixoBebo have wider screens, 1440 pixels and above.

Stats

Other statistics are interesting, too, including the lack of penetration by Windows Vista. Almost 87-percent of PixoBebo readers use Windows XP, barely 7-percent for Vista.

Interesting, no? I’ll do this again in a few months to provide a historical comparison. Again, for more detail, just click on any of the charts for a pop-up close-up. Any surprises?
