I don’t know how much money Apple makes on every iPhone 4 sold. Apparently, it’s not sufficient to keep the bean counters in Cupertino happy. I declined to buy an official Apple bumper for my iPhone 4. Why? It’s 25-cents of colored plasticky material with a $29 price tag. It’s possible that Apple makes more clear profit on the bumper than on the iPhone 4. Aurich Lawson’s summary in ArsTechnica:
For this kind of quality and utility you should get all six colors for the price. Even for those used to paying the “Apple tax,” this feels like a rip-off.
It is.
