NY Senator Tells Apple To Fix The iPhone

You know the iPhone antenna situation is careening out of control when it shows up on David Letterman. Now, US Senator Charles Schumer is hopping on the iPhone bandwagon with an open letter to Apple CEO Steve Jobs:

I write to express concern regarding the reception problem with the Apple iPhone 4… I believe it is incumbent upon Apple to address this flaw in a transparent manner.

How does this grandstanding help anyone but Schumer?

I ask that Apple provide iPhone 4 customers with a clearly written explanation of the cause of the reception problem and make a public commitment to remedy it free-of-charge.

I’m still looking for someone who has returned their iPhone to Apple because of the antenna problem.

I also encourage Apple to keep its promise to provide free software updates so that bars displayed accurately reflect signal strength; I further urge Apple to issue a written explanation of the formula it uses to calculate bar strength, so that consumers can once again trust the product that they have invested in.

I’m sure that Senator Schumer’s actions have spurred Apple to release the iPhone 4 update ahead of schedule.

I voted for Schumer. I’m sorry. The choices are few.

With all the massive problems the federal government is facing, why in the world does a US Senator get involved in something like this? It’s pure grandstanding from an old school politician who never misses an opportunity to promote himself.
