Android phones outsell iPhones

Let’s put this on in our Fact or Fiction category. The Wall Street Journal reported that smart phones running Google’s Android OS already outsell Apple’s iPhone.

That figure, revealed by Google executive Andy Rubin, is up from the 100,000 activations a day Google claimed in mid-May and well beyond the 97,222 iPhones Apple sold on average every day in the first quarter.

From Andy Rubin’s blog:

Today, there are 60 compatible Android devices, delivered via a global partnership network of 21 OEMs and 59 carriers in 49 countries.

Can anyone refute those numbers?

Compare that growing effort to four iPhone models in four years from a single iPhone manufacturer (iPhone sells in more countries on more cell phone carriers). Revenue and profits? Apple = gazillions. Google = zero.
