Now it’s Apple vs. Amazon

Just when you thought Apple couldn’t have any more battle fronts, yet another pops up. Cupertino is being sued left and right by patent trolls and competitors who want a slice of Apple’s war chest. It’s Windows PCs vs. Mac. Android phones vs. iPhones. Vaporware vs. the iPad. Apple vs. Microsoft for the crown of most valuable tech company. Now it’s Apple vs. Amazon for the top online retailer.

Philip Elmer-DeWitt shows off a great bar chart of Apple vs. other online retailers:

Apple is now the U.S.‘s No. 2 e-retailer. Visitors to its online store “surged 25%” in the past year, according to a comScore survey. Visitation to the overall retail category grew 12% in April 2010 versus year ago, while some larger retailers experienced declines in total UVs to their sites.

Apple trails Amazon but tops Walmart, Target, Best Buy, HP, and Dell.
