Buy An iPhone Without An AT&T Contract

Gizmodo reports that Apple is selling iPhones without a two-year contract from AT&T.

According to Apple’s internal documentation, the iPhone is now available without AT&T contract or ID at any Apple Store. Our contact claims that the iPhone is locked, however, so it will only work with AT&T SIMs.

This is what happened last year. Apple is moving excess inventory to make way for new iPhones, due probably in June or July. What’s the price tag on those non-contract iPhones.

The price is $499 for the iPhone 3G 8GB, $599 for the iPhone 3GS 16GB, and $699 for the 32GB top model.

Now do you know why Apple has $40-billion in the bank?
