Steve Jobs vs. CES

Everybody who is anybody in electronics will be at CES in Las Vegas this week (International Consumer Electronics). Mostly. But not Apple. Brian Caulfield in Forbes:

More than 2,500 exhibitors will be hawking 20,000 new products this week… in Las Vegas. The biggest no show? Apple

Those who can, do. Everyone else goes to CES. Except Apple. People will talk about CES announcements and products this week. Then it will all be forgotten. Apple will announce the Jesus Tablet in late January and everyone will talk about it non-stop for months. Steve Jobs defeats CES. Again.

If such a gadget is coming, count on Jobs to deliver the news himself, quite possibly by the end of the month. Coming at the end of a decade that saw Apple’s shares rise more than 700%—thanks to the iPod and the iPhone—the new product promises to be the biggest technology feat, or flop, of the year.

The big concern here is the answer to the question, “What will the Jesus Tablet do that a MacBook or iPhone doesn’t already do?”
