Engadget unboxes and plays with Microsoft’s latest creation, the Zune HD. Unfortunately, the Zune HD doesn’t come with software that works. An upgrade is planned for customers.
These devices are being sold to end users in the same condition our unit is in—namely, without any real functioning software. It’s a pretty unusual move for a company like Microsoft to put devices into the hands of consumers with no functionality at all, but it seems the Zune team was cranking till the last minute.
I stopped by the Apple Store on 5th Avenue this morning. The place is packed and there are lines to buy Apple’s new iPod nano. Meanwhile, Microsoft ships a new Zune that doesn’t work.
